The Wedding of Jon and Jessica

November 12, 2011  |  2 Comments

Jon and Jess’ wedding took place on a gorgeous autumnal day at the end of October in Rusholme, Manchester. They had chosen a bright azure blue colour scheme which just looked amazing with all the rusty oranges and browns of autumn leaves, a total blaze of colour!

The ceremony was held at the beautiful Holy Trinity Platt church, with its amazing arches and stained glass windows, where Jess and Jon had met. For the evening reception, the party moved on to Whitworth Art Gallery. This has a wonderful south facing gallery room used for the meal and dancing, so lovely and bright. Paired with a temporary exhibition in the adjoining rooms, Dark Matters, a show about shadows and darkness, this made for some fairly dramatic contrast!

A quote I found upstairs in the gallery:

“[Black] – the most essential of all colours. Above all…it draws its excitement and vitality from deep and secret sources…One must admire black.” – Odilon Redon

Congratulations Mr and Mrs Best! It was wonderful to be there to witness your excitement and vitality for life and each other, that I know comes from a deep, everlasting source. Hope you are loving married life!

The Wedding of Gregory & Suzannah, Staffordshire

July 16, 2011  |  No Comments

Ok, I’m rubbish at sneak previews, which should really be just one or two pictures. I’ve not edited the full set of Greg and Suzannah’s Staffordshire wedding yet, but wanted to get a selection together as they were itching to see them. But the 10 or so they asked for has turned into 31 – it was so tough choosing.

There’s still loads more I will want to be posting so will save the writing of the wedding til then too.

Thanks to my lovely assistant, Olivia Hart, for the pictures from the front of the church.

The Wedding-Day-After Photography of Jessica and Simon

July 15, 2011  |  4 Comments

You may recognise the beautiful bride in this post from her Edinburgh hen-do that I blogged recently, and here now is the couple’s glorious Inverness Wedding-Day-After.

(As a friend and bridesmaid, I couldn’t have done justice to photographing the actual wedding, so we arranged to take a bit more time over it and do some couple shots the following day instead.)

The First Day of the Rest of Their Lives began gorgeous, sunny and still with a breakfast for the family and guests staying at Bunchrew House Hotel, an enchanting, fairytale pink(!) castle up on the shores on the Beauly Firth, just outside Inverness. The wedding held there the day before had been fantastic, creative, fun… just like Jessica and Simon themselves! Despite the spaegie* limbs from the night’s ceilidh-ing, I couldn’t wait to get them out into the hotel’s beautiful gardens, woodland … and maybe, hopefully, even the river!

Thank you so much Jess and Si for dressing up again in all your finery just for me and my camera (we felt very honoured!) and humouring me with my crazy ideas.

*spaegie is a Shetland term that perfectly describes that feeling in your muscles after a high-octane ceilidh…there really isn’t a English equivalent!

The Wedding of Sarah & Tom, Skipton, Yorkshire

June 17, 2011  |  No Comments

It was such a joy to photograph Sarah and Tom’s wedding in Skipton, North Yorkshire at the end of April. Having asked me exactly one year previously, we had no idea the Royal Wedding would be announced and Kate and William would try and upstage them the day before! As it turned out, there was no chance of that happening though. Sarah and Tom’s wedding was just how I like them: relaxed, beautiful, full of joy and very, very special.

The ceremony took place at their home church Skipton Baptist Church, with Sarah’s dad giving the talk, and the reception and ceilidh at the Devonshire Institute in Grassington. All in all, an amazing day full of emotion: worshipful ceremony, heartfelt speeches and uninhibited dancing! Enjoy the photographs:

The Wedding of Dan and Sarah

December 8, 2010  |  2 Comments

I don’t think I can better the wonderful words written about Dan and Sarah’s wedding from both photographer, Katy Lunsford, and the English Wedding Blog, so I’ll direct you to their posts instead to read more about it and see Katy’s full set of images.

What neither of them mentioned, however, was that Katy was ably managing a baby daughter needing feeds in between taking all those beautiful photos! As if being a wedding photographer isn’t challenging enough! She wasn’t sure how that double duty was going to work out, so had asked me along to assist on the day, which I absolutely loved. She is so great to work with and I learnt so much from her.

Here is All Saints’ Church in Marple, Cheshire where our story takes place…

I was planted in prime position up at the front of the church to get shots during the vows, leaving Katy free to move around and get the entrance and exit moments.
