Open Yardens Photography

At what was possibly the UK’s first ever ‘Open Yardens’ event, a number of Moss Side and Rusholme houses opened up their back gates to allow the public in to see their amazing ‘yardens’ (bigger than a yard, but not quite a garden).

Moss Side Caribbean Carnival

August 16, 2011  |  No Comments

This weekend saw the Caribbean come to Manchester, with the annual Caribbean Carnival held in Alexandra Park in Moss Side.

This year’s theme was Project ’81 in recognition of the 30 years that Moss Side has progressed since the riots of 1981. The sounds and smells tempted me over for a quick look around (only quick because the Open Yardens event I was photographing was about to begin), but thought I would at least provide a flavour of the festivity here.

I’ll hopefully see the parade next year!

Jessica’s ‘French Maid’ Hen-Do

June 25, 2011  |  1 Comments

Jessica is one of those ladies who manages to do about 5 times the amount that any ordinary woman could handle. She’s been that way since we met, studying at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, where she managed to hold down more jobs at uni than I’ve had in my life to date, buy a house, snare the man of her dreams…oh, and complete her Visual Communication degree with flying colours.

The weekend I went to visit for her Edinburgh hen-do, she was simultaneously looking after her gorgeous baby boy, Benji, nursing her fiancé back to full health, hosting multiple friends from around the globe and dealing with all the last-minute things that need dealing with two weeks before a wedding.

And still, she looked radiant!

The Cake Gallery, Bowdon

April 27, 2011  |  3 Comments

A new temptation in the form of The Cake Gallery, opened up around the corner from the design agency I work at part-time, earlier this year.

It is beautifully fitted out, with a delicious selection of cakes, soup, sandwiches, paninis and good coffee. Fortunately for me they were in need of new flyers and photography, so The Agency was able to lend a hand. Feast your eyes on this lovely little lot, and if you’re in Bowdon, Cheshire, go and check it out on Stamford Rd.

*** PLEASE NOTE: I’M NOT THE CAKE GALLERY, AND CAN’T HELP WITH YOUR BIRTHDAY CAKE/CHRISTENING CAKE/DELECTABLE GOODNESS NEEDS! ***
I only photograph them. If you are looking to contact The Cake Gallery, their details are:
Tel: 0161 929 9202. Address: 4 Stamford Road, Bowdon, WA14 2JU.

The Cherry Bakery is another place I would recommend for delicious homemade cakes whilst we’re on referrals. Email: thecherrybakery@gmail.com

Ok, on with the pictures…

The Moss Cider Project

September 27, 2010  |  4 Comments

I am a Moss Sider and this weekend I helped make Moss Cider! (When I say ‘helped’, I mean ‘watched’. Clearly, sticky apples and cameras…not a good combination, I don’t think.)

The Moss Cider Project is the fantastic brainchild of Dan Hasler, a local resident, who is organising a group of volunteers to grow apples in and around Moss Side then turning the fruits of their labours into cider, selling it and sowing the profits back into the community.

I was there to document this – the first ever Mash Up – and it was pretty cool!
